What size potjie pot do I need?
Most SA households use No. 2 (6–8 servings) or No. 3 (10–12). Braai clubs run No. 6 (20–25). Catering uses No. 10 (40–50) or larger. Big5 makes all SA sizes from No. 1/4 to No. 25.
How do I season a new potjie pot?
Wash with hot water (no soap), dry over heat, rub a thin layer of neutral vegetable oil on all surfaces, place upside down in an oven at 200 °C for one hour. Repeat 2–3 times for a strong initial patina.
3-leg potjie vs Dutch oven potjie?
3-leg sits directly on coals or in a fire. Flat-bottom Dutch oven is for stove, oven, or braai-grid use. Choose 3-leg for outdoor potjiekos; Dutch oven for indoor-primary use.
Are the kettle braais portable?
The 22-inch (57 cm) is portable and foldable — built for community events and camping. The 14.5-inch (36 cm) is smaller, for patios.
