Catering Pots — Factory Direct | Big5 Cookware

Catering Pots — Factory Direct from the Big5 Thaba Nchu Plant
"Built for the people who cook for hundreds. Honest aluminium. Factory price." — Big5 Cookware
Big5 Cookware has manufactured aluminium catering pots at our Thaba Nchu factory in the Free State since 1977. Today the plant runs ~50,000 pieces per day across our six brand lines, and the Bon Voyage Extra Heavy-Duty (NW) catering range on this page is the heart of that operation — built for the funeral caterers, burial societies, school feeding programmes, churches, hostels and shisanyama owners who feed South Africa every week.
Buying direct from us cuts out the retail middle-margin. The same pot you'd find at Shoprite, Makro, Builders or a catering equipment store sits at our factory door at a noticeably lower price — same 99.9% pure aluminium, same heavy-gauge base, same warranty.
The Catering Pot Range
Pure aluminium catering pots in nine sizes, from a 8-litre family pot up to a 100-litre institutional pot. All sizes in stock and shipping from Thaba Nchu within 1–2 working days.

If you cook in the 60–100L institutional range and need an even heavier aluminium spec, see the Zebra Aluminium Catering Pot (1.6mm plate, 60L R899 / 100L R1,099) — same factory, sister brand, built for daily institutional duty.
Who Cooks With Big5 Catering Pots

Funeral Caterers
Feeding 200–500 guests at a township funeral is one of the most common large-scale cooking jobs in South Africa. The NW50 (50L) and NW100 (100L) are the go-to pots for professional and family-run funeral catering across Gauteng, KZN and the Eastern Cape. The pure-aluminium body conducts heat evenly, so a single pot can finish a meal in time without scorching the base.
Burial Societies & Stokvels
Burial societies that pool equipment for members benefit most from buying direct. Buy 5 or more pots and we apply bulk pricing — shared ownership across a society means lower cost per pot per member. The NW40 and NW50 are the most common bulk-order sizes; mix sizes in a single order.
Shisanyama & Taverns
High-frequency, high-heat use demands heavy-gauge aluminium that doesn't warp. The NW21 (21L) and NW40 (40L) survive daily fire-side cooking, clean easily after a busy night, and last for years of weekend trade.
Schools & Churches
The National School Nutrition Programme and church community kitchens use the NW70 (70L) and NW100 (100L) for weekly large-scale meal prep. All orders include a VAT invoice for institutional procurement. PO and invoicing arrangements available on request.
Mine Canteens, Hostels & Lodge Kitchens
Operations needing serious daily duty pots specify NW85 and NW100, or the Zebra 60L / 100L for the most demanding institutional kitchens. The pure-aluminium NW range and the heavier-plate Zebra range cover both ends of the institutional spectrum from the same factory.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I place a bulk order?
The easiest way is WhatsApp — message us at 060 6999 888 with the size and quantity you need and we'll send a quote within the hour. You can also email supplier@big5cookware.co.za directly. For orders over 20 pots, we recommend calling so we can arrange transport together.
What sizes do you stock?
We carry Bon Voyage Extra Heavy-Duty (NW) aluminium catering pots in nine sizes: 8L, 13L, 21L, 40L, 50L, 55L, 70L, 85L and 100L. All sizes are available online and in stock from the factory. If you need a special size, contact us — our factory produces a wider range and may fulfil special orders.
Do you deliver to townships and rural areas?
Yes. We deliver nationwide via courier to any physical address, including townships and rural areas. Orders over R750 deliver free. For remote or rural areas a small surcharge may apply — WhatsApp us your address for an exact delivery cost.
How much does shipping cost?
Delivery is free on orders over R750. For smaller orders, a flat courier rate applies at checkout. Large pots (NW70 and NW100) may incur a freight surcharge due to size and weight — we'll confirm this on your quote.
Are Big5 Bon Voyage catering pots the same quality as Hart Homeware pots?
Big5 Cookware manufactures Bon Voyage catering pots from 99.9% pure aluminium at our Thaba Nchu factory. We produce more than 1 million pieces per year and have done so for 48+ years (since 1977). The main differences from Hart Homeware are: (1) we are the manufacturer, not a distributor; (2) buying direct cuts out the retail middleman, so the same factory quality reaches you at a lower price.
Can I get a VAT invoice for my school or institution?
Yes. All orders automatically include a VAT invoice. For institutional procurement orders or purchase order (PO) arrangements, contact us via WhatsApp or email and we'll assist with the paperwork.
Can I collect from the factory?
Yes — factory collection is available at our Thaba Nchu facility in the Free State. Contact us in advance to arrange a collection time so we can have your order ready. We also have a factory shop in Johannesburg — contact us for the current address and hours.
What's the difference between Bon Voyage catering pots and Zebra catering pots?
Both are aluminium catering lines made at the same factory. Bon Voyage is the household + everyday catering line, in 8L → 100L sizes for home cooks, taverns and event caterers. Zebra is the institutional / heavy-duty catering line — fewer sizes (CP8 curry set, Q7 jumbo set, 60L and 100L single pots) made from 1.6mm aluminium plate for daily institutional use. School feeding programmes, mine canteens and large hostel kitchens typically run on Zebra. See the Zebra brand page for full detail.
