Bon Voyage No. 20 vs LK's Best Duty Large Cast Iron
LK Products dominates SA cast iron retail through Builders, Game, and Outdoor Warehouse. Their large cast iron typically retails between R6,500 and R9,000 depending on retailer markup.
Bon Voyage No. 20 ships factory-direct from Big5 Cookware's Thaba Nchu plant at R4,699 (regular R8,999). Same cast iron, same traditional 3-leg design, same use cases. The difference is the supply chain: no Builders middle layer, no retail markup. Manufacturing since 1977 — the same factory that supplies aluminium catering pots to churches and community kitchens nationwide.
Handling a 90 kg Full Pot Safely
Never lift solo when full. Use 2 adults with grappling hooks, or a pulley + tripod system.
Empty in stages. Use a 2-litre ladle to portion out into smaller serving pots first.
Coal bed prep. Build a 1m x 1m wood fire 90 minutes before cooking.
Carry strap. Most caterers fit a chain or steel cable between the bow handle and a tripod.
Excellent quality and easy to install. The castors are incredibly big and strong, 2 have brakes. Perfectly to place my counter top braai on, and the gas cylinder underneath. As elegant as the picture.
