Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Bon Voyage Super Heavy Fry Pan used for?
Daily frying — eggs, bacon, vegetables, sausages, fillets — plus catering use where high-volume continuous frying needs a heavy pan. The 3 mm aluminium body holds heat well, prevents food sticking from hot-spots, and survives high-cycle commercial use.
What sizes are available?
Three sizes: 22 cm (small — single-portion frying, eggs, omelettes), 24 cm (medium — family-size, 2–3 portions), 26 cm (large — catering use, multiple portions, big fry-ups).
Is the Super Heavy Fry Pan non-stick?
No — this is an uncoated pure aluminium frypan. With proper heat technique (pre-heat the empty pan on medium for 1–2 minutes, add a thin layer of oil before adding food, do not overcrowd), food releases cleanly without a non-stick coating. The advantage over coated pans: no PFOA / PTFE chemicals, no coating to wear out, lasts decades. For a non-stick alternative see the Big5 Greenis non-stick frypan.
What stovetops is it compatible with?
Gas, electric coil, ceramic glass top, and halogen. Oven safe. Not induction-compatible because aluminium is not magnetic. For induction frypans you would need stainless steel or cast iron.
Is aluminium frying-pan use safe?
Yes. EFSA’s Tolerable Weekly Intake for aluminium is 1 mg per kg of body weight — typical cooking stays well below this. For long simmering of very acidic foods (tomato sauce, lemon-heavy dishes) we recommend stainless steel or enamelled cast iron alternatives.
How do I clean and care for the Super Heavy Fry Pan?
Hand wash with warm soapy water — also dishwasher safe. To remove the dark grey film that develops on aluminium over time, simmer water with one tablespoon of cream of tartar for 10 minutes. Do not use steel wool or harsh abrasive cleaners.
Where is the Super Heavy Fry Pan manufactured?
At the Big5 Cookware factory in Thaba Nchu, Free State, South Africa. Big5 Cookware has been manufacturing cookware at this facility since 1977.
