A standard bobotie portion is 180–220 g cooked weight per person. The dish needs 4–6 cm depth for proper top crisping. Width and height matter more than litres.
The Sizing Math
For 8 people: 8 × 200g = 1.6 kg cooked weight → ~2.4 L dish (with 25% headroom). At 4–5 cm depth → dish surface area ≈ 480–600 cm² → roughly 22 × 25 cm or 24 × 24 cm.
